Finisar Announces Next Generation Analysis and Testing Solutions for SAS and SATA

DURHAM, NH, Nov. 02, 2004 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- SAS Plugfest -- Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR), a provider of gigabit network solutions, announced today its next generation analysis and testing solutions for Serial Attached SCSI (SAS). Finisar is releasing a new version Bus Doctor 3.0(TM), its SAS/SATA protocol analyzer. Bus Doctor 3.0 features new "Expert" software that allows users to quickly troubleshoot and resolve SAS protocol implementation problems. Finisar is also releasing its industry-unique SAS Verification Suite (SVT) software that provides validation tests that cover the PHY, link, transport and application levels of the SAS protocol.

These new products are a result of Finisar's recent acquisition of the assets of Data Transit Corporation in August 2004. Finisar will be demonstrating both Bus Doctor 3.0 and SVT at the SAS Plugfest Nov 2-5 at the University of New Hampshire (UNH).

Bus Doctor 3.0

Bus Doctor 3.0 is modular in design and allows analyzer hardware to be re-used with up to 14 storage networking related protocols, preserving customer development budgets. The software runs on the Finisar RX and RX-252 analyzers and Version 3.0 introduces the following new features to aid in SAS troubleshooting and product development:

-- Dockable window feature allows the packet/data windows in the main
interface to change size and move outside of the main interface, helping
developers define the look and feel of their development environment.
-- New support for iSAS/SATA analysis including the conversion of all its
traces into scripts for the SAS/SATA traffic generator and tester
PacketMaker. This provides a fast way to take real world trace data into
the test environment for playback with storage devices.
-- End user demanded features including SAS Response and Sense data, SAS
inquiry and other SCSI commands support.
-- Auto negotiation sequence supports both speeds -- 1.5 Gb/s to 3.0
Gb/s.
-- New "Expert" Analysis for SAS benefits engineers by allowing them to
view trace data and identify problems in a visual and user-friendly way.
-- "Expert" systematically examines captured SAS data and reviews it,
frame by frame automatically reporting on problems, protocol violations,
exchange statistics, etc and offers unique and powerful graphical views and
in-depth information to assist with problem resolution. The software allows
users who are not "experts" in SAS to now become experts.

SAS Verification Suite (SVT)

The SAS Verification Suite is aimed specifically at SAS-based product development. The SAS protocol, targeted for the storage industry, has been touted as one of the more advanced protocols, featuring more primitives, frames and timeout conditions which are much more complex than previous storage protocols Fibre Channel and SATA.
SVT helps speed product development, validation and verification by thoroughly stepping through "what if situations."

SVT provides:

-- Validation tests that cover the PHY, link, transport and application
levels of the SAS protocol.

-- Works in concert with Finisar's SAS PacketMaker, a 1 to 4 port traffic
generator card that supports the SSP, SMP and STP protocols.
-- Validates hardware through an extensive battery of tests, which are
derived from the SAS specification.
-- Ability to provide combination tests specifically within a layer of
the protocol to intrinsically test that particular layer.
