Finisar Adds SAS and SATA Protocols to Its Industry-Leading Xgig(R) Analyzer 3.0

SUNNYVALE, CA, Feb 01, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR), a technology leader in providing gigabit fiber optic solutions for high-speed data networks, today announced it has significantly expanded its market-leading storage area network (SAN) analysis and testing suite, the Xgig(R) Analyzer 3.0. Leveraging Finisar's expertise in storage protocols, the company has developed next-generation Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Serial ATA (SATA) storage interfaces on the company's flagship Xgig platform. In addition, Finisar announced the availability of the Xgig SAS Jammer, a tool to help engineers speed up testing of new prototypes through protocol compliance checking.

The enhanced Xgig platform now has the ability to decode and analyze SAS and SATA traffic, and automatically detects errors in the new protocols using an expert analysis tool. With its new blade, the Xgig now supports the SSP, STP and SMP protocols. It can provide time-correlated analysis of as many as 32 concurrent SAS, SATA, Fibre Channel or Ethernet (both GbE and 10GbE) ports or links. The Xgig also supports out-of-band (OOB) signaling and spread spectrum clock (SSC). These new features help vendors deliver SAS/SATA products that have been widely adopted within the storage industry.

"Finisar's newest Xgig Analyzer dramatically simplifies storage testing environments," said Paul Hansen, marketing vice-president, Finisar. "With advanced features and functionality, including SAS/SATA support, our Xgig Analyzer brings industry-leading expertise to troubleshooting multi-protocol SANs and storage interfaces, assuring that compliance standards are met while accelerating time to market."

Recent industry research indicates that data storage requirements driven by workload are likely to double every 18-24 months over the next several years, prompting IT managers to look for the most efficient means of storage. Serial storage technologies such as SATA and SAS have a promising future due to their low cost, reliability and performance density. According to industry analysts, nearly every major vendor is currently shipping SATA drives, with SAS already being offered as a replacement technology for the aging SCSI interface.

The Xgig Jammer is used with the Xgig Analyzer to capture and display network traffic associated with real-time data modification. The Jammer re-times and re-transmits data with a new clock, passing Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet or SAS traffic or recognizing an event sequence and modifying the traffic.

"We are delighted that Finisar has added SAS capability to the Xgig Analyzer platform," said Margie Evashenk, Vice President of Engineering for Sierra Logic, a leading provider of sophisticated chip and firmware solutions for networked storage systems. "We use many Xgig Analyzers in our Fibre Channel test environment and have found the combined hardware and software solution enables us to efficiently test and troubleshoot the complex storage systems that contain our products. We're looking forward to the added capabilities the new generation of Xgig products will provide."
