Finisar Corporation to Introduce the New Bus Doctor(TM) CE-ATA
Analyzer at Intel's Developer Forum
SUNNYVALE, CA, Mar 07, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Finisar
Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR), a technology leader in gigabit fiber optic
solutions for high-speed data networks, today announced that it will introduce
its new Bus Doctor(TM) CE-ATA Analyzer with a demonstration at the Intel
Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco, March 7 - 9.
CE-ATA is a new storage protocol that has a number of advantages due to
its compact design and power efficiency making it an ideal protocol for
consumer electronic products based on the continual need for miniaturization.
The new Finisar analyzer will assist storage, silicon and product engineers
in their work with CE-ATA in the development of the next generation of
digital media players, digital recorders, digital audio players and multi-media
cellular phones.
Finisar, located in booth #530, will demonstrate a CE-ATA system with
its new analyzer capturing and monitoring data traffic and decoding the
CE-ATA protocol. In this live demo, Finisar will exercise the CE-ATA protocol
using the Hitachi Microdrive 3K8 one-inch drive, the world's first CE-ATA-based
hard drive.
"Tools like the Finisar Bus Doctor CE-ATA Analyzer are an important
next step in moving forward the CE-ATA standard, which will simplify the
process to integrate hard drives into consumer electronics," said
Larry Swezey, director, mobile HDD product strategy & marketing, Hitachi
Global Storage Technologies. "Hitachi is supportive of efforts that
bring the benefits of high storage capacity to consumer-electronic devices
in the most expeditious and cost effective way, and CE-ATA helps to achieve
that objective."
"Adoption rate and interoperability are necessary elements for market
success," said Guri Stark, vice president of Marketing, Solutions
Group at Synopsys. "As the leader in connectivity IP, Synopsys is
in a strong position to facilitate the adoption of the CE-ATA protocol
for designers looking to integrate this IP into their mobile storage SoC
designs. The Bus Doctor Rx from Finisar is a much welcomed tool as it
addresses interoperability by providing essential tools for software developers
to integrate the CE-ATA drives with our DesignWare Mobile Storage CE-ATA
host IP."
"CE-ATA is an exciting development for the mobile products market
where a significant number of products are expected to debut later this
year," said Steve Wong, Product Marketing Director, Finisar Corporation.
"Before the Bus Doctor CE-ATA Analyzer, there were no effective tools
for the testing and analysis of this new protocol. Finisar is once again
first to help engineers design for a new protocol that will ultimately
help bring new and better storage products to market more quickly."
With advanced features such as trace buffers as larger as 4.6GBs, hardware
assisted search and 4 nanosecond capture resolution, the Bus Doctor is
a unique platform able to analyze CE-ATA technology as well as many other
consumer electronic and computing protocols.
The new Finisar Bus Doctor CE-ATA Analyzer features support of native
MMC and CE-ATA, bus widths of x1, x4 and x8, and bus speeds of 0 to 52
MHz.
